Because
of my geographical location (somewhere inside the Commonwealth of
Virginia) I have been keeping tabs on the Virginia Senatorial race and
the Maryland Senatorial race. Virginia for obvious reasons and Maryland
for nostalgic reasons. I grew up in Maryland.
My
candidates are Senator George Allen and Maryland Lt. Governor Michael
Steele. It is true that they both have similar political viewpoints but
then, they are both Republicans (imagine that!). They are also both way
more Conservative than their opponents.
Cardin
and Webb have both been using smear campaigns and the politics of
personal destruction against both Allen and Steele. Why? Because Cardin
and Webb know they cannot win on the issues. In fact, the biggest
charge both Dems level against the Republican candidates is that on
several issues, each one agrees with President Bush, who is (imagine
this!) another Republican.
But
what about the flip-side to that. Jim Webb says George Allen agrees
with President Bush 96% of the time. That is actually a back track from
an earlier campaign statement in which Webb wrongfully said that George
Allen agreed with the President 100% of the time and was merely a
"rubber stamp" for White House policies. When it was pointed out that
Senator Allen did not agree with the President on Illegal Immigration
issues, the Webb campaign had to reverse itself and come up with
something that was more in line with reality.
Now,
about that flip-side. Jim Webb has made campaign promises that he would
be an independent voice. But thus far, Jim Webb has been in 100%
agreement with the Democrat National Committee on everything he has
campaigned on, even on issues that the people of the Commonwealth of
Virginia disagree with the DNC on.
Thus, it is clear that Jim Webb will be representing the DNC in Congress, not the people of Virginia.
My
vote will be going to George Allen, who has been clear, concise and up
front about where he stands on various issues. Here we are less than 24
hours before voting, and Jim Webb has yet to lay out a clear, detailed
platform, other than what he can do for the DNC.
For that reason alone, George Allen must remain the junior Senator from Virgina.
And
here is another reason why we Core Conservatives need to get out and
vote. The left likes to make comparisons between Vietnam and Iraq
(despite the fact that the only similarity is leftist opposition to the
war) and they didn't count on one, nagging, little detail that makes
all the difference in the world. It is written in a headline over at
the American Thinker:
No Viet Cong Followed Us Home, Al-Qaeda Will
That's
right, when we left an unfinished job in Vietnam, the VC stayed there
and began a reign of terror. Al-Qaeda will not stay put. Just as they
did in the years prior to 9/11, they will come here to the U.S. and
prepare new and deadlier attacks against us.
From the article:
| Bush
opponents like to quote the National Intelligence Assessment which
stated that America has been made less safe because its involvement in
Iraq has become a recruiting aid for terrorists. That is of course
true. But those same people ignore the flip side of that equation,
which the National Intelligence Assessment made equally clear. If the
Al Qaeda and Iranian backed terrorists win in Iraq they will be further
encouraged in their war against us. If they are defeated, then the
defeat will go heavy with them; and we will indeed be the beneficiaries. To put it in its simplest terms, we can quit the battle field but the battle field will not quit us. Whether
we like it or not, we are in a war with Islamist terrorists. It is not
a “supposed war,” or a war with quotation marks around it. Al-Qaeda
declared its war against America years before 9/11. 9/11 was simply
their Pearl Harbor. To suggest, as some have, that America and its
actions in Iraq are the only thing that stands between us and peace
with the Islamo terrorists would be like saying that after Pearl Harbor
the reason we were at war with Japan was because we engaged the
Japanese at Wake Island. The truth is much more uncomfortable. We are
at war with Islamist terrorists because they want to kill us. That is
not hyperbole, nor is it metaphor. They have announced it as clearly
and as plainly as humanly possible. Al-Qaeda has declared we have the
following choice: convert to Islam or die. |
Let me repeat the most important sentence in that whole quote:
We can quit the battle field but the battle field will not quit us.
The VC did not follow us back to America. Al-Qaeda has already done so and will do so again.
Tomorrow, when you make your selections, I hope you will keep this in mind.

Some
are predicting that the Republicans will hold on to the House and
Senate. That will be a good thing, but it doesn't mean we can just sit
back and let things be. We Conservatives still need to put pressure on
Congressional Republicans to return to the Conservative Roots that put
them into power back in 1994.
