Election Day: A Day Of the Dead? DOD Calling Out the NYT

According to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, as many as 2,600 in New York rise up out of their graves and vote on Election Day. The Democrat & Chronicle cites an analysis conducted by the Poughkeepsie Journal in which the following were found:

The Journal identified dead people on the voter rolls in all 62 counties and people in as many as 45 counties who had votes recorded after they had died.

One address in the Bronx was listed as the home for as many as 191 registered voters who had died. The address is for the Hebrew Home for the Aged.

Democrats who cast votes after they died outnumbered Republicans by more than a 4-1 ratio. The reason: Most of them came from Democrat-dominated New York City, where a higher population produced more matches.

According to the article, this study does not say how much fraud is the result of dead voters, only that the potential for it exists. Other states have gone so far as to prosecute those who engage in voter fraud:

Tales of votes being cast from the grave are part of elections lore. Last year, at least two dead voters were counted in a Tennessee state Senate race that was decided by fewer than 20 votes. As a result of that and other irregularities, seven poll workers were fired, an entire precinct was dissolved and the election results were voided by the state Senate, forcing the removal of the presumed winner. Three elections workers were indicted for faking the votes.

State and federal laws require the names of the deceased to be purged from voter rolls, but it requires a tricky balance of commitment and restraint. Failing to do so enhances the opportunity for fraud — the case of one person pretending to be another.

But removing dead voters also can save boards of elections the cost of mailing unnecessary reminders and absentee ballots.

This is why it is so important for us to enact laws that require people to have correct and valid photo IDs and to record exactly when and where each indiviual cast their ballot. In areas where no voter ID is required, one person could potentially go to multiple polling places and ask for absentee ballots and cast them all without the polling place workers ever knowing something is wrong.

God Bless The Internet. Back in the 70's and 80's, if a major newspaper ran a misleading story, few knew about the misinformation and even fewer could do anything to highlight it or force a correction. The Internet has changed all of that. It was through the Internet that we brought to light the lies of people like Dan Rather, Eason Jordon and Michael Moore.

And it is through the Internet we expose the lies of papers like the New York Times, the Washington Post, and many, many others. The following is an excerpt of an article from StrategyPage.com:

October 27, 2006: The U.S. Department of Defense is now taking its requests for corrections public through a website known as For the Record. Here, the Department of Defense is openly calling for corrections from major media outlets, and even noting when they refuse to publish letters to the editor.

The most recent was this past Tuesday, when the DOD published a letter, that the New York Times refused to run, which contained quotes from five generals (former CENTCOM commander Tommy Franks, current CENTCOM commander John Abizaid, MNF Commander George Casey, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Richard Myers, as well as his successor, Peter Pace) that rebutted a New York Times editorial. This has been picked up by a number of bloggers who have been able to spread the Pentagon's rebuttal – and the efforts of the New York Times to sweep it under the rug – across the country.

The Defense Department has been dealing with a number of misleading stories. From Newsweek's misreporting of a Koran-flushing incident (caused by a detainee, not guards as reported by Newsweek), to claims of prisoner mistreatment (often without context, including one instance where a detainee spat on an interrogator), to a massive rewriting of an embedded reporter's report on the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment's efforts in Tal Afar, by editors of Time magazine, to the revelations about NSA efforts, the DOD has been barraged by numerous stories, many of which were followed by angry editorials.

The DOD is pushing back, not only putting out requests to correct the record (with the refusals published as well), but also citing stories of heroes that the media has failed to cover – usually two or three a week. Among these are accounts of those who have been awarded medals for battlefield bravery, like Navy Cross recipients Robert J. Mitchell Jr. and Bradley A. Kasal, as well as Silver Star recipients Juan M. Rubio, Sarun Sar, Jeremy Church, and Leigh Ann Hester. The DOD has also followed CENTCOM's lead in running pieces on what terrorists actually say – another item largely ignored by the mainstream media.

One of the Dem themes of this campaign cycle is that this administration has been lying about Iraq and the War On Terror. But the truth is that Old Media outlets have been lying and the Dems and their leftist allies have been naive enough to believe it. Further, Old Media has been deliberately down-playing any good news that comes out of the War On Terror.

The Internet is our biggest blessing to date.

Jim Webb's Pedophilic Musings

Okay, despite all of the efforts the Dems used to paint Republicans as uncaring about child molesters and sexual predators in their ranks, Virginia Democratic Senatorial Candidate Jim Webb has shown us that the Dems are probably worse. At least the Republicans basically told Mark Foley to take a hike after it was revealed what he had been doing, but the Dems have never done so any of their members who commit such indiscretions. Bill Clinton, Gerry Studds, Barney Frank and others have all gotten passes for their sexual misconduct.

The Dems haven't changed yet. It turns out that Jim Webb has a bit of 'splaining to do about the novels he's written. Here is an example of his work from the novel Lost Soldiers published by Bantam Books, 2001:

“A shirtless man walked toward them along a mud pathway. His muscles were young and hard, but his face was devastated with wrinkles. His eyes were so red that they appeared to be burned by fire. A naked boy ran happily toward him from a little plot of dirt. The man grabbed his young son in his arms, turned him upside down, and put the boy’s p*nis in his mouth.”

Page 333.

From his novel Something To Die For published by William Morrow and Company, Inc., 1991:

"Fogarty . . . watch[ed] a naked young stripper do the splits over a banana. She stood back up, her face smiling proudly and her round breasts glistening from a spotlight in the dim bar, and left the banana on the bar, cut in four equal sections by the muscles of her vagina."

Page 36.

From his novel A Country Such as This published by Doubleday & Co., Garden City, 1983:

"[He] could see Jawbone and Ashley Asthmatic [two guards at a Vietnamese prison camp] napping together in the grass. They faced inward, their arms entwined. It looked like they were masturbating each other. It didn't surprise him. … It was common to see men holding hands, embracing, playing with each other. Some of them [the guards] had wanted him. He could tell in those evanescent moments between his bao cao bow, the obligatory deference when a guard entered his cell, and the first word or blow that followed it… Quick, grinding voices, turgid with repressed passion. An exploratory reaching of the hand near his groin…”

Page 396.

From his novel A Sense of Honor published by Prentice-Hall, New York, 1981:

“Nurse Goodbody, dark and voluptuous (Lenahan had forgotten her actual name, it was something long and Italian), was a bedtime friend to many of the doctors in Bethesda. She had hinted to Lenahan that she simply could not contain herself. Doctors tending to patients, she explained, aroused her. Morphine Mary (again Lenahan could not remember her exact name) was a thin, nervous drill sergeant type, a disciplinarian who did not allow her patients even to complain. Lenahan was convinced that Morphine Mary did not even sleep with her husband. She wasn’t bad looking, he mused again, staring at her thin frame. If she’d just get laid every now and then she’d mellow out and stop being such a d*mn witch.” (p. 164) (Lenahan brings Goodbody home with him and has sex, pp. 188-190)

So, Mark Foley has his IMs and Jim Webb has his lavicious prose. Kind of makes you wonder what goes through the mind of a man who can dream up stuff like this.

And I still have no idea of where Jim Webb stands on the important issues of the day.

NRA Endorses Senator George Allen, Muslims Blame Women For Sex Crimes And Ann Coulter's Latest

It should come as no surprise that the NRA should come out and support a Conservative candidate for a U.S. Senate seat. After all, George Allen is one of our nation's strongest supporters of the 2nd Amendment. Here is a list of Senator Allen's positions on 2nd Amendment issues:

  • He Earned an A + rating and endorsement by NRA-PVF for his perfect voting record, and is a tireless supporter of and leader on our Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage.
  • He cosponsored and voted for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, stopping bogus gun industry lawsuits trying to bankrupt firearms manufacturers and dealers by holding them responsible for the acts of criminals.
  • He is a sponsor of the National Right to Carry Reciprocity bill, whereby each state will recognize CCW permits just as they recognize each others drivers licenses.
  • He cosponsored the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act and voted to prohibit gun confiscation during states of emergency as happened after Hurricane Katrina
  • He is a cosponsor of the District of Columbia Personal Protection Act, which would repeal the gun ban for law-abiding D.C. residents and restore their right of self defense.

But what is surprising is that his opponent, Jim Webb, is not speaking out on 2nd Amendment issues. Jim Webb is also pro-gun but must take his cues from the DNC which is rabidly for gun control. It is kind of ironic that Jim Webb accuses George Allen of agreeing with President Bush 96% of the time as if it were a bad thing, and yet Webb himself is allowing the DNC to use him as a puppet.

Exactly how many issues does Jim Webb disagree with the DNC on and exactly what are those issues? If Webb really wants to paint himself as an independent, he must come forward with that information before November 7th. Until then, Senator Allen has my vote simply for the fact that I know exactly where he stands on the issues. I have no clue what Jim Webb really stands for.

Here is a sickening story coming out of Austrailia. The alleged Religion of Peace is making some more preposterous claims about Muslims and sex crimes. Austrailia's most senior Muslim cleric has declared that women who dress "immodestly" are the ones responsible for sexual attacks, not the uncontrolled and undisciplined men who do the attacking.

From The Austrailian:

The nation's most senior Muslim cleric has blamed immodestly dressed women who don't wear Islamic headdress for being preyed on by men and likened them to abandoned "meat" that attracts voracious animals.

In a Ramadan sermon that has outraged Muslim women leaders, Sydney-based Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali also alluded to the infamous Sydney gang rapes, suggesting the attackers were not entirely to blame.

While not specifically referring to the rapes, brutal attacks on four women for which a group of young Lebanese men received long jail sentences, Sheik Hilali said there were women who "sway suggestively" and wore make-up and immodest dress ... "and then you get a judge without mercy (rahma) and gives you 65 years".

...

In the religious address on adultery to about 500 worshippers in Sydney last month, Sheik Hilali said: "If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered meat?

"The uncovered meat is the problem."

The sheik then said: "If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab, no problem would have occurred."

He said women were "weapons" used by "Satan" to control men.

And there you have it. One of the biggest reasons why we must win the war against Islamofascism: to prevent the Islamic subjugation of women.

Where is CAIR on this issue? Where is NOW on this issue? Where are the Dems on this issue? Why are they all so shamefully silent?

Because to speak out against the likes of Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali would mean giving legitimacy to the Bush Administration. The Dems would rather regain power than to actually do something to prevent a forceful submission of women to Islamics.

Another reason for us core Conservatives to get out and vote on November 7.

And Ann Coulter entertains us with her most recent column in which she looks into the contradictory world of Democrat war support. From her column:

In fact, during the brief five weeks it took American forces to take Kabul and send the Taliban scurrying, liberals were not the flag-waving patriots they would have us believe.

In October 2001, Sen. Joe Biden gave a speech before the Council on Foreign Relations saying that America's air war in Afghanistan made the United States look like "this high-tech bully that thinks from the air we can do whatever we want to do."

Four weeks before U.S. troops completely vanquished the Taliban, Kim Jong Il's pal, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, said on CNN's "Capital Gang" that the Taliban would not soon be toppled. He cited his experience with the Taliban, saying: "I think they can hold on for a while. They were very resilient."

Howard Dean joined Michael Moore in arguing that Osama bin Laden was innocent until proved guilty.

It wasn't (and still isn't) just elected politicians who are wavering and vacillating in the face of factual reality. She goes on to say:

Democrats who would not have to face voters -- we call them "reporters" -- were calling Afghanistan a "quagmire" approximately six minutes after we invaded.

Thomas Ricks, the Washington Post reporter who currently has a book out saying the war in Iraq is not succeeding, also said the war in Afghanistan was not succeeding.

On Oct. 27, 2001, Ricks said this about Afghanistan -- not Iraq: "Although there is little evidence -- yet -- that the U.S. approach is succeeding, officials at the Pentagon and the White House said yesterday that they are sticking with their original strategy."

Our boys had taken Kabul before Ricks' article hit the recycling bin.

And her parting shot:

The first time liberals had a kind word for the war in Afghanistan was when they needed to pretend to support some war in order to attack the war in Iraq with greater vigor. To get them to support the Iraq war, all we have to do is attack Iran.

Yep.

Support American Snipers

Michelle Malkin has a great blog entry today. I can't come up with anything that even comes close to this:

As you can tell from my O'Reilly appearance tonight, I am not in a good mood.

I am not in the mood to hear about how CNN is justified in broadcasting "great footage" of American soldiers getting picked off by Iraqi snipers because it's "great footage."

I am not in the mood to hear about how dealing with terrorists and serving as terrorist public relations officers is the only way for the American media to get "access" to the region and to awaken the American public to the horrors of war.

I am not in the mood to hear about how it's only natural for "international media outlets" like CNN to put their allegiances to global citizenry and the almighty dollar over journalistic ethics.

I'm with Rep. Duncan Hunter, whose video clip challenging CNN earlier today is must-see.

Now I want to turn my anger into something productive. I am asking you to combat CNN's glorification of Iraqi jihadist snipers by supporting American snipers. Seems like the only time American snipers earn CNN and other international media organization's attention is when they make mistakes and can be tarred as reckless killers.

Miscarriages Of Justice

The open borders lobby is all ecstatic today as two border patrol agents were sentenced to 11 and 12 years apiece in prison. According to the El Paso Times:

The former Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a drug smuggler in the buttocks last year were sentenced Thursday -- Ignacio Ramos to 11 years in prison and Jose Alonso Compean to 12 years in prison -- but allowed to remain free on bond at least until mid-January.

...

On Feb. 17, 2005, Ramos chased a van loaded with marijuana to a ditch near Fabens, where the van's driver, Osvaldo Aldrete Davila, abandoned his vehicle and ran toward Mexico.

According to court testimony, agent Compean tried to block his path, but Aldrete continued running toward the Rio Grande. Compean and Ramos then shot at Aldrete and a bullet from Ramos' gun hit the smuggler in the buttock. Aldrete made it to Mexico, wounded.

So, a Mexican drug smuggler tried to bring illegal drugs into the U.S., these two border patrol agents stopped him and some idiot prosecutor here in the U.S. pressed charges.

I wonder if prosecutor Johnny Sutton is going to press charges against the smuggler for all of the dope he tried to illegally bring across the border?

No. That would offend the Mexicans. Apparently, it's okay for Mexicans to bring illegal drugs into the U.S., but it is not okay for us to offend the Mexicans by trying to stop them.

This is a travesty. The judge in this case should be impeached and Johnny Sutton should be disbarred.

Rocco DiPippo has penned a very good expose over at Front Page Magazine about how the radical left is planning a Presidential impeachment should the Dems win the House (very unlikely) this fall.

From his column:

The plan is the ultimate manifestation of left-wing hatred for George W. Bush rooted in the contentious election of 2000. Since failing to defeat Bush in 2004, the Left has focused its efforts on destroying his presidency by assembling a list of charges aimed at impeaching him.

Impeachment plans began seriously coalescing in 2005, after the NY Times published classified aspects of the NSA surveillance program. In mid- December of that year, Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-CA, asked a group of presidential scholars whether President George W. Bush had committed an impeachable offense when he authorized the NSA foreign surveillance program. John Dean, the long-time Bush critic of Watergate fame provided Boxer with the answer she and most other Democrats were looking for: “Bush is the first president to admit an impeachable offense,” he said.

Since when is providing a tool for defending Americans from terrorists an "impeachable offense?" This clearly shows why the libs are not in any condition to take over leardership of the House or Senate and should not be put back in the White House for a long, long time.

Here's another example of how far the Dems are willing to reach:

More recently, Rep. Brad Miller, D-GA, said, “The Democrats on the House Science Committee are collecting stories of the intimidation or censoring of scientists. We’re building a case for hearings by the Committee, which may be unrealistic to expect under the current majority, or to be ready for hearings next year if Democrats gain the majority in November.” [Emphasis added.] Miller was making that threat in relation to accusations by leftists and Democrats that Bush was silencing those concerned about global warming.

An impeachment over global warming? Despite the growing evidence that global warming is a natural phenomenon and not a man-made situation, the Dems are going to try an impeachment over this? This clearly shows how the Dems are willing to completely ignore the facts and scientific data in their quest to advance their agenda.

And how about this one:

And then there are the constant calls by congressional Democrats, led by Senator Carl Levin, D-MI, to investigate the treatment of terrorist prisoners held by the U.S. at Guantanamo Bay and other locations. But most telling of all was Senator Harry Reid's November 2005 attempt to begin the “Phase II“ investigation into the Bush administration's use of intelligence in the run-up to the Iraq War. Reid said Congress must subpoena administration officials and documents in order to determine how Bush built his case for war.

They are still harping on the bad intel despite the fact that many Democrats had access to the same exact intel and came to the same exact conclusions the Bush Administration did. Also remember that the United Nations and several foreign countries came to the same conclusion as well.

But the Dems will only hold President Bush accountable for the intel failure.

The Dems have such a deep seated hatred for Republicans that they will do anything, even completely undermine the safety and security of American citizens to destory them. You will note that nowhere in all of the Dem plans and proposals do they actually have any intention of fighting terrorists, protecting Americans from attack or doing anything to end the threat of terrorism.

It is deeply troubling that politicians can be so blinded by such hatred. The last time such deep seated hatred was allowed to go unchecked, 13 million people died in concentration camps throughout Europe.

Marriage According To The Bible, Charity According To The Bible And Ann Coulter's Latest

I'm not usually one to get into a religious argument, but one of the most irritating things I can think of is when someone twists facts, distorts truths, uses half-truths or just is plain ignorant of a certain issue or set of issues. The current debate over gay-marriage is one such issue. The Rev. Jack Rogers of the San Francisco Theological Seminary is one such person who twists and distorts facts in making his argument for gay marriage.

Now, I am not taking a position on gay marriage here. I am taking a position on people like Rogers who seem to intentionally mislead their audiences with inaccurate information.

Jan Larue, Chief Counsel of Concerned Women for America's Legal Studies shows us exactly how Rogers has deliberately tried to mislead us about what the bible, and in particular Jesus, said (or didn't say) about homosexuals. From her most recent column:

Incredibly, Rogers fails to follow his own advice "to read the Bible through the lens of Jesus' redeeming life and ministry." He fails to acknowledge that Christ's lens includes all of Scripture, and what it says about marriage and homosexuality "is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness." (2 Timothy 3:16)

Rogers' sole support for same-sex marriage is his distorted view of what the Bible says about homosexuality and his misapplication of the greatest commandments:

When Jesus was asked which commandment in the law was the greatest, he quoted two verses from the Old Testament: Deuteronomy 6:5: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might," and Leviticus 19:17: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus said, "On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." (Matthew 22:36-40) When we see Jesus as the center of Scripture, it enables us to focus on the heart of the gospel message: Love God and love your neighbor.

...

Rogers' adulterated agape condones conduct condemned as sin. He links Jesus' words about love to the Mosaic Law, yet Rogers disregards the Mosaic Law on the subjects of marriage and homosexuality. He wrongly claims:

The debate in the church focuses on, at most, eight texts. None of these texts is about Jesus, nor do they include any of his words. In fact, as I show in my new book, Jesus, the Bible, and Homosexuality: Explode the Myths, Heal the Church, none of these texts, properly understood, refers to faithful same-sex couples as we know them today.

The problem is that Rogers never acknowledges the 700 passages in the bible that describe and define marriage. And Rogers never acknowledges God's law as described in the bible.

Ms. Larue goes into great detail to show how Rogers failed to incorporate some of the bibles most relevent passages into his argument:

The Mosaic Law, which Rogers misinterprets, condemns homosexual sex as an abomination: "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman: it is detestable … Do not defile yourselves." (Leviticus 18:22) The context has nothing to do with hospitality as Rogers contends.

It cannot be imagined that God would permit homosexuals to marry when He has condemned their sexual union.

God destroyed S*dom and Gomorrah because of homosexual conduct (see Genesis 19:1-28).

Rogers, however, blames the destruction on everything but homosexual perversion:

Take for example, the story of S*dom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19). In Old Testament references to S*dom, the sins of the city are variously described as greed, injustice, inhospitality, excess wealth, indifference to the poor and general wickedness. In the New Testament when Jesus referred to the sin of S*dom, as recorded in Luke 10:12 and Matthew 10:15, he was passing judgment on cities that refused hospitality to his traveling disciples. A focus on the supposed homosexual aspect of the S*dom story only comes later in nonbiblical literature.

There is no need to resort to "nonbiblical literature" to prove "the homosexual aspect" of the S*dom story. Rogers avoids the specific words of Jude 7: "In a similar way, S*dom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire." The Apostle Peter also confirms that the cities' destruction was due to "the filthy lives of lawless men." (2 Peter 2:5-7). Nothing here is remotely related to hospitality.

As I said, I am not taking a position on gay-marriage. I am taking a position on someone trying to deliberately misrepresent information to an audience. Rogers is such a person and should be held accountable for his attempt at doing so.

Jesus Is Wedded To Biblical Marriage
Jan Larue

And while we are on the topic of religious misinformation, Tom Snyder over at the World Net Daily has a good column about the claims of "Red Letter Christians" that Jesus was a Socialist. Mr. Snyder provides us with ample evidence that Jesus was not a Socialist at all.

From his column:

What these misguided religious zealots conveniently fail to note is that nowhere in the New Testament or the other books of the Bible do Jesus Christ, His apostles, God the Father, the Holy Spirit, Moses or the Hebrew prophets command the government to take money from its citizens and transfer it to poor people. In fact, the Bible says just the opposite.

God presents us with three general ways in the Bible to take care of the poor and needy: 1) through the family; 2) through the church; and 3) through individual charity. The applicable passages for these three ways are Deuteronomy 14:28, 29, Numbers 18:24, Matthew 6:1-4 and 1 Timothy 5:3-16.

In fact, nowhere in the bible does God or Jesus ever give a command that money should be forcibly confiscated from those who earned it and given to those who did not earn it. If you want ot find that particular story-line written down somewhere, you'll have to look up the story of Robin Hood and his Merry Men.

Mr. Snyder goes on:

Jesus Christ, who is God in the flesh, talks about the third way in Matthew 6. He tells His listeners that they should give individual charity. He also says they should give such charity secretly: "Do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing."

In other words, Jesus is not a socialist. Nor is he a liberal. In fact, in none of the Bible passages just cited, nor in any others I know of, does Jesus, God or even Moses cite the government as the means by which the poor, needy, widowed and orphaned are housed, clothed and fed.

...

[I]t is interesting to recall that the 10th Commandment in Exodus 20:17 actually protects private property by commanding people not to covet their neighbor's house or belongings. That commands applies to the average citizen as well as the elected official, the judge and all other government officials.

Furthermore, the Bible condemns laziness and praises hard work. Proverbs 10:4 says, "Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth." Proverbs 14:23 says, "All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty."

Finally, it is interesting to note that, in Mark 7:20-23, not only does Jesus Christ declare that all sex outside of heterosexual marriage, including homosexuality, pre-marital sex and adultery, is evil, he also declares that both greed and envy are evil. Thus, Jesus Christ condemns both the greed of the rich man as well as the greed of the poor man, and the envy of the poor man as well as the envy of the rich man.

These "Red Letter Christians" are yet another example of those who would misinform for politcal gain.

I like the following quote from the Book of Isaiah (5:20): "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter."

Woe indeed.

We all know how lib judges are working to undo all the social structure that keeps our society stable. Overturning referudum votes and forcing a perverted morality through litigation rather than allowing a democratic legislative process give direction and guidance to public morality.

Well, Ann Coulter looks at the latest damage caused by an activist judge in giving a very lenient sentence to Lynne Stewart when found guily guilty of aiding a terrorist (her client, Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman), by relaying messages to an Egyptian terrorist group.

From her latest column:

This week, Judge John Koeltl – appointed to the bench by President Bill Clinton in 1994 – spurned the prosecution's request for a 30-year sentence and gave Stewart 28 months for being a terrorist's mule. Now she'll clog up the criminal justice system with endless appeals for the next several years – using procedures that liberals also want for Guantanamo detainees.

At Stewart's sentencing, the judge noted that the defendant's actions had not resulted in any deaths. I'll have to remember that in case I'm ever on trial for attempted murder. "Hey, your honor, did I mention that the guy lived? Yeah, the darn gun jammed on me. Go figure, huh?"

In rejecting a 30-year sentence in favor of a 28-month sentence, the judge commended Stewart for her "public service, not only to her clients, but to the nation" for representing members of the Black Panthers and the Weather Underground. In a sane world, that would have justified a longer sentence, not a shorter one.

And she goes on to note:

It would be frightening enough to treat terrorism as a criminal law problem if it were Republicans saying it. But these are Democrats. Their idea of a major criminal case is Tom DeLay's campaign treasurer accidentally depositing a campaign contribution into a checking account rather than a savings account.

By contrast, terrorists imprisoned in Guantanamo for trying to kill Americans must be treated as innocent little lambs. Oh, to be there when Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman is exonerated due to previously unavailable "DNA evidence"!

After President Bush signed a law this week providing for military tribunals for terrorists being held at Guantanamo and prohibiting their torture, Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold of Wisconsin said, "We will look back on this day as a stain on our nation's history." (Note to Democrats: It's still too soon to use "stain" as a metaphor for a White House brouhaha.)

Democrats stood outside the White House shouting "Torture is a crime!" and "Bush is the terrorist!" Yep, these are the people who claim they're going to keep us all safe, America. Everybody good with that?

No, I am not good with that at all. Anyone who thinks that a terrorist who is trying to kill innocent Americans should be treated with kid gloves should not be holding office in the U.S. Government.

Okay, it is practically impossible to turn on the radio or TV these days and not hear someone saying: "The Republicans have abondoned their Core Conservatives and thus, they will stay home giving the Dems a victory in November." In other words, the Dems won't win, the Republicans will lose. Well, I know one Core Conservative will be voting on November 7: Yours truly.

I don't know what logic the Dems (and others) are following in making such a prediction. It is true that Conservatives are not completely happy with the GOP, expecially over things like border security and the Foley affair. But where did anyone get the idea that we Conservatives will suddenly start supporting higher taxes, wide open borders, soft on terrorism policies and all of the failed left-wing socialist policies that the Dems are promising to try again?

(See my previous blog post: Hightlighted Democrat Hypocrisy And Nancy Pelosi's Recipe For Disaster.)

So, Maude Franeschina, writing for the Frederick News-Post of Frederick, Maryland, asks the question: "Which way should we go?" Here is an excerpt of her column:

We are tired of being robbed of juicy TV news reporting because Republicans too quickly throw out representatives found to be in violation of laws or ethics. We have a right to long and drawn out scandals and, by golly, we'll get it by voting Democrat.

By voting Democrat we can hope for two years of "investigation" and maybe even (salivate here) impeachment because President Bush actually took action to defend our nation. Never mind that Democratic Sen. Rockefeller went to Iraq a year ahead of time and told Saddam we were coming.

Let's bring back the Democrats that so tightly embrace the ACLU (which also supports NAMBLA, the North American Man Boy Love Association) and are able to twist actual physical relationships with minors into acceptable and even celebrated events. Maybe they will finally lower the age of consent (long a goal of liberal Dems). How grand!

Remember Gerry Studds? He was a Democrat congressman who actually did have sex with a 17-year-old page. The old way that required being in the same room. For fighting an ethics complaint, he received a standing ovation from his Democrat colleagues and was re-elected, staying on for 13 more years and receiving a fat pension. I'm glad I had the opportunity to support his retirement.--

And her parting shot:

But enough about life and death issues, it's the economy, stupid! I, for one, am tired of having a good economy while being told that it is bad. It is much preferable to have a bad economy and be told that it is good.

Now, exactly how is it better to vote Democrat than vote Republican on November 7?

This is one Core Conservative who will not be staying home that day.

David French penned an interesting essay for FrontPage Magazine dealing with leftists and their fear of free speech. The shout-down riots at Columbia University highlight the leftists' hypocrisy on such issues and thanks to the fact that we have an Internet, Old Media wasn't able to bury the story.

From his column:

In an incident that is rapidly becoming famous even among people who don't follow the campus culture wars, leftist activists stormed the stage at Columbia University this month and triggered a wild melee during a speech by Jim Gilchrist, the controversial founder of the Minuteman Project.

The incident was shocking enough, but it cannot be viewed in isolation. The mob at Morningside Heights is just another piece of gathering evidence that the '60s are returning to campus.

...

Consider this: In the spring, anti-war protesters blocked access to a job fair at the University of California-Santa Cruz and caused Army and National Guard recruiters to be escorted off campus by university police. According to one recruiter, "the situation had degraded" to such an extent that the recruiters feared for the safety of students and law enforcement officers.

Prominent conservatives like David Horowitz, Ann Coulter, Bill Kristol and Pat Buchanan have been attacked with pies and salad dressing during on-campus speeches. At UC-San Francisco, a crowd of students blocked access to and scuffled with College Republicans whose crime was merely handing out flyers to students. At Washington State, protesters disrupted, shouted down and threatened actors in a satirical play.

...

The protesters hide behind tactics of the '60s to lash out helplessly at a culture that seems (to them) to be inexorably moving right. With every branch of government in conservative hands, with the rise of conservative media and with the increasing influence of religious conservatives, the radical left feels under siege. To make matters worse, the conservative movement is now taking aim at the left's last cultural bastion - the nation's colleges and universities - in an effort to reopen the marketplace of ideas on campus.

In the '60s, the excesses of campus radicals eventually led to a cultural backlash that ushered in the Reagan era. These same excesses committed in an era of blogs, YouTube downloads and talk radio lead to a much more immediate response. So, rather than reveling in last week's momentary triumph, Columbia's leftist radicals find themselves on the defensive, blaming others for the violence and begging the administration not to search the Internet for clues about the protesters' identities.

In the battle for the hearts and minds of the public, they have already lost.

And it is a battle they cannot win. The left knows it cannot win on issues and therefore must turn to Brown Shirt tactics to silence their opponents.

And how about this press release from the U.S. Senate:

Claude Allegre, a former government official and an active member of France’s Socialist Party, wrote an editorial on September 21, 2006 in the French newspaper L'Express titled “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” (For English Translation, click here.) detailing his newfound skepticism about manmade global warming. See: this also. Allegre wrote that the “cause of climate change remains unknown” and pointed out that Kilimanjaro is not losing snow due to global warming, but to local land use and precipitation changes. Allegre also pointed out that studies show that Antarctic snowfall rate has been stable over the past 30 years and the continent is actually gaining ice.

“Following the month of August experienced by the northern half of France, the prophets of doom of global warming will have a lot on their plate in order to make our fellow countrymen swallow their certitudes,” Allegre wrote. He also accused proponents of manmade catastrophic global warming of being motivated by money, noting that “the ecology of helpless protesting has become a very lucrative business for some people!”

Looks like some scientists are finally starting to acknowledge that there remains large amounts of evidence that have been ignored by the enviro-alarmists like Al Gore.

A Mother Dies Because Her Daughter Converted And The Changing Political Landscape In Maryland

I think most people are convinced by now that Islam is not a Religion of Peace, at least not as practiced by extremists/fundamentalists. Of course, very few "moderate" Muslims will criticize these extremists for fear of being hurt or killed. Thus, we can dispense with the "Religion of Peace" mischaracterization.

The most recent example of this mischaracterization comes from Austrailia's Gold Coast, where, when a teenage girl announced to her Muslim family that she was converting to Christianity, her father went into a rage and a huge domestic fight ensued leaving the girl's mother dead and the father in critical condition.

From ASSIST News Service (ANS):

On the evening of Monday 9 October, Kaihana Hussain, the teenage daughter of Muslim immigrants, told her parents that she was converting from Islam to Christianity. Her father responded with unrestrained fury. Neighbours heard "blood curdling" and "terrifying" screams and cries of "Help me, help me, they're trying to kill me", but they were unsure which apartment the screams were coming from, and the voices were unfamiliar.

After a short time, Kaihana came running out of the family's apartment, dressed only in her underwear, her clothes torn off, blood splattered over her severely scratched and cut body.

All that is known at this stage is that after her father began to attack her, Kaihana's mother, Yasmin (41, and a strict and devout Muslim), intervened to aid and protect her daughter.

Once again, we have to ask: Where are the moderate Muslims who would condemn such an action taken by the father? Where are the moderate Muslims who would preach tolerance of other religions to their fellow Muslims?

Their silence is deafening.

Having grown up in the state of Maryland, I saw first-hand how the political landscape was and how it had adjusted itself over the years. That is one of the reasons why, as soon as I graduated from College Park, I headed west across the Potomac River as fast as my car could take me. The Commonwealth of Virginia was offering life and job opportunities that the State of Maryland promised, but never delivered on. In fact, Maryland did just about everything it could to ensure that such job opportunities never materialized.

The Dems have controlled Maryland for many, many years now and those who has continually voted liberal are now realizing that the liberals have not been making things any better.

That may be changing at the grass-roots level now. Writing for TownHall.com, Mr. Harry R. Jackson, Jr. points out some of this in his analysis of how Senatorial candidate Michael Steele (R-MD) is focusing his campaign on "values voters."

From his column:

These courageous leaders are simply telling Maryland voters to come out to the polls and to promote the protection of marriage and a culture of life. In addition, pastor summits and a town hall meeting are planned in strategic urban areas. The message in these events is very simple: the evangelical church must speak as a prophetic voice to our nation, addressing the urgent social issues of our day. More specifically, the black church must come off of the “Democratic plantation” and stand up for what it really believes. This message resonates with many leaders who are part of what I have dubbed, “The New Black Church.” They are angry with the Democratic Party because they are tired of rhetoric instead of action. Values voters of every racial stripe are looking for a new breed of sincere public servants who will represent their views.

Republican candidates all over the nation should follow Michael Steele’s example. They can turn the tide of public opinion and the growing anti-GOP sentiment. Sixty million evangelical Christians are waiting for a compelling reason to come to the polls.

...

As a black evangelical, I’ve had to think about the unpleasant prospect of a Democratically-controlled House and Senate. If the Democrats are in power, the following problems will occur: 1) There will be no protection of traditional marriage, 2) Abortion-on-demand will be encouraged, 3) Religious freedoms will be attacked, 4) The tax-exempt status of many Christian organizations will be revoked, 5) Massive amnesty will be given to illegal aliens, 6) Border protection will not be enforced, 7) We will lose clear and consistent vigilance on the war on terror, and 8) Abandonment of the Iraq war will occur without strategic understanding. The eight consequences of Democratic leadership outlined above are startling. If Democrats act consistently with their recent philosophies and style of government, they will turn the American dream into a nightmare. This is something I and millions of others are not willing to endure.

Are their any Conservative Republicans out there who will listen to Mr. Jackson and learn the lessons he is offering?

Security Council Agrees On Text Of N. Korea Resolution

Security Council Agrees On Text Of N. Korea Resolution
AP via FoxNews
October 13, 2006

The U.N. is going to do what it does best: throw around some words and some paper and hope the problem goes away on its own.

From the article:

"
The agreement on the resolution came after the United States, in a concession to China and Russia, circulated a new draft Thursday night that eliminated a blanket arms embargo and the possibility of using force against the communist regime.

...

Under the new resolution, nations would be barred from selling to or supplying North Korea with specific weapons — including missiles, tanks, warships and combat aircraft."

In other words, all bark and no bite. DPRK is probably leaping with joy right now over such a soft-handed approach. Now they know they can lie to the U.S. (and the world) again, just as they did back in '94 when the Clinton Administration so naively believed them, and no one will do anything worthwhile about it.

This is yet another farce engineered by the U.N. that will come back to bite us in the collective rear-ends.

Nancy Pelosi Ducks The Gay Issue, Leftist Enemies Of Free Speech

In a previous blog entry, I noted that Rep. Pelosi and other Dems are going to have to give account of their position against the Boy Scout's ban on gay leaders with respect to their claims that the Mark Foley scandal showed some sort of Republican moral bankruptcy. Well, someone finally called them on it and Pelosi did the only thing she was expected to do: she ducked like a coward.

Writing for American Spectator, Jeffrey Lord brings up the hypocrisy of Nancy Pelosi's rage against Mark Foley and Republicans in general. Mr. Lord did give Pelosi a chance to respond to these questions, but Pelosi's office gave him the cold treatment instead. From his most recent column:

After three phone calls to the office of the San Francisco Democrat who will be the Speaker of the U.S. House if her party wins the November elections, she ducked.

When Pelosi spokeswoman Jennifer Crider was told that the subject of the call was Pelosi's participation in the San Francisco Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Parade -- the welcoming tone on the other end turned frosty. Having written the original column in this space that revealed Pelosi had marched in the parade that honored man/boy love advocate Harry Hay ("When Nancy Met Harry"), I have to say I was not all that surprised. After all, if you're busy charging the House Republican leadership with a "cover-up of Foley's internet stalking" (Crider's words as reported in the San Francisco Chronicle) of teenage boys, the last thing you would want anybody to notice is that your boss found it just ducky to lend her support to the honoring of a man who was famous for talking about men having relationships with "the nine-year-old, the eleven-year- old, the twelve-year-old, the fourteen-year-old...."

Emphasis mine.

Mr. Lord then goes on to explain what it would mean if the Dems won the House and the Senate this November:

But the question is how could Pelosi and her Harry Hay-minded allies use her power as Speaker to do this? Lowering the age of consent would be the charge of the House Judiciary Committee. In a Pelosi-led House that would mean a Judiciary Committee chaired by same-sex marriage and gay adoption advocate Congressman John Conyers (D-MI). On the Senate side it would be heard by a Democratic-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee chaired by Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy. Vermont, of course, is the very liberal home of the first civil union legislation in the nation, signed by then-Governor Howard Dean, now the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

So does the repeated refusal of Nancy Pelosi to apologize or back away from her connection to the late Harry Hay's agenda have any meaning for the future of America beyond just another tired double standard? What do you think?"

I think we should never have to find out. The courage it will give to gay sexual predators, not to mention the damage it will do to our children, is something we dare not take a chance on.

Have you ever noticed that leftists always demand equal time while working to ensure that Conservatives are not allowed to speak at all? That is something that goes back to the Communist roots of most leftist ideology. Claim to be tolerant while really making sure that your opponent's ideas remain unpublished.

Sadly, such is still true today. Despite claims of being "tolerant" and "inclusive" leftists are still Stalinists at heart.

Doug Hagin of the New Media Journal looks at this topic:

The record of Leftists is not one of tolerance, nor is it one of embracing free speech. Oh, do not get me wrong. Leftists love free speech, as long as they are the ones speaking, or the person speaking is toeing the leftist line. Let anyone disagree with the speech of a Leftist, or use their speech to offer a differing ideological view, and look out!

Take the Dixie Chicks for example. They used their free speech to bash the president. They were darn proud to stand on the right to free speech weren’t they? Sure they were. Yet, when fans of the Dixie Chicks stopped buying their CD’s or radio stations stopped playing their music the Chicks changed their tune. They did not defend the freedom of expression of their critics did they? No, instead they started whining that their freedom of expression had been squashed.

That happened with other celebrities too. Susan Sarandon, when criticized for her opposition to the War on Terror, tried to make herself out to be some sort of victim of censorship when the truth was that no one was holding her back from a microphone, people just didn't want ot listen to her tripe anymore.

Mr. Hagin goes on:

How many times have we heard Leftists stealing college newspapers so that no one can read a certain article or op-ed? All too often my friends. Moreover, how often do the neo-Marxists who steal these papers defend their actions by announcing that the article that offended them was not “protected speech”? Again, the left seems to hold themselves up as the sole arbiters of who should speak, and what they should say. Again, this is NOT freedom of speech, and it certainly is not tolerance or inclusion. The most recent example of this Leftist “tolerance” is how a speaker from the Minutemen was treated at Columbia University. As Jim Gilchrist was just starting his speech, a group of self-righteous punks rushed the stage, yelling, chanting and generally making their lack of class obscenely obvious. Tell me, how often have you heard of a Conservative, or Libertarian group behaving in a similar manner? No, I did not think you had.

There lies the difference between Conservatives and Leftists. No matter how grievously a Conservative group disagreed with the speaker or speakers, they would have not jumped on the stage in a bullying manner. They would have waited for their opportunity to debate the ideological points. They would have acted like adults instead of like thugs intent on intimidating their ideological opponents into silence and submission. They would have recognized that, no matter how deeply offensive the speech was, the speaker had every right to say it. Any true Conservative would not have allowed their emotions to overcome their intellect. That is something Leftists are, apparently, completely incapable of.

Very true. Another example of this is how leftists are constantly accusing Conservatives of being Nazis yet it is the leftists who engage in Nazi-style Brown-shirt activities like slashing tires, vandalizing Republican offices and throwing stones at Conservative themed parade floats.

And the parting shot:

Deep down, deep in their hearts they know their ideology is flat wrong, yet their emotionally driven nature will never allow facts to overrule their feelings. In the end their feelings is all they have, is, ultimately, all they are. No way will they allow those feelings to change. Allowing an open examination of their ideals would lead to a rejection of those ideals. For a Leftist, rejecting their ideals would mean they would force them to let go of their delusional desire for some Marxist utopia. They will do anything to avoid that, including crushing the freedom they claim to hold most dear!

Old Media Skews The Polls And Ann Coulter's Latest

This comes as no surprise to anyone. We've known for years that since Old Media has a leftist slant that the editors and publishers will do everything they can to promote leftist liberal causes. Yes, they will even skew polls in an effort to push public opinion in a certain direction. The latest culprit is a Washington Post/ABC News poll in which the respondents were deliberately skewed towards Democrats.

Newsbusters.org has this:

Yet, nowhere did the authors let their readers know that 41 percent more Democrats were questioned for this survey than Republicans. That’s right. The breakdown was: 38 percent Democrats; 27 percent Republicans, and; 31 percent Independents. This was the largest skewing of Democrats to Republicans in a WaPo-ABC News poll since at least April. By contrast, in last month’s poll, the breakdown was 33 percent Democrats, 32 percent Republicans, and 30 percent Independents.

With this in mind, should it be at all surprising that President Bush’s job approval dropped by 3 percentage points since the September poll? Or that approval for the job Bush is doing in Iraq dropped by six points, and for the war on terror by eight?

Furthermore, given a ten point swing in the Democrat versus Republican respondent differential, should it be at all surprising that there was a four percentage point increase in folks saying they’ll vote for Democrats in November?

Forgive me, folks, but with four weeks to go before the midterm elections, it is absolutely shameful that any polling organization would do such a poor job of evenly distributing respondents by political affiliation.

This is why most rationally thinking people don't trust polls. This is also why President Bush does not govern by polls.

But, if polls are your thing, check out the following from IntellectualConservative. Bruce Walker writes:

One year ago, in October 2005, I noted that sixty-one percent of Americans considered themselves “conservative” or “very conservative” and that thirty-five percent of Americans considered themselves “liberal” or “very liberal.” Was this an October 2005 aberration? Hardly.

In the June 2002 Battleground Poll, fifty-nine percent of Americans considered themselves “conservative” or “very conservative” and thirty-five percent of Americans considered themselves “liberal” or “very liberal.” In the September 2003 Battleground Poll, fifty-nine percent of Americans considered themselves “conservative” or “very conservative” and, again, thirty-five percent of Americans considered themselves “liberal” or “very liberal.” In the April 2004 Battleground Poll, sixty percent of Americans considered themselves “conservative” or “very conservative” and thirty-seven percent of Americans considered themselves “liberal” or “very liberal.” The June 2004 Battleground Poll showed that fifty-nine percent of Americans considered themselves “conservative” or “very conservative” and thirty-eight percent of Americans considered themselves “liberal” or “very liberal.” In the August 2004 Battleground Poll, just before the presidential election, sixty percent of Americans considered themselves “conservative” or “very conservative” and thirty-four percent of Americans considered themselves “liberal” or “very liberal.”

The last Battleground Poll was in March 2006, just seven months ago. Had all the hammering of President Bush and Republicans affected the ideological opinions of Americans? These are the results of the same question in the March 2006 Battleground Poll. Fifty-nine percent of Americans described themselves as “conservative” or “very conservative” and thirty-six percent of Americans described themselves as “liberal” or “very liberal.”

Think about this for a minute. The number of Americans who affirmatively described themselves as “conservative” or “very conservative” has not varied by more than one percent in six consecutive Battleground Polls leading up to last week. It has always been fifty-nine to sixty percent, and this is of the whole universe of those polled. If we remove those who identify themselves as “moderate” or “unsure” from the mix, then the percentage of Americans who identify themselves as “conservative” or “very conservative” rises into the sixty-two or sixty-three percent range. Neither of the two political parties has received that high a percentage of the vote in any modern congressional election.

But things have changed dramatically in the last six months, right? Wrong. Dead wrong. The October 2006 Battleground Poll shows sixty-one percent of Americans consider themselves “conservative” or “very conservative” and thirty-four percent of Americans consider themselves “liberal” or “very liberal.”

This could simply mean that some people consider themselves to be Conservative while really being liberal. It has been known to happen. Journalists in Old Media call themselves objective when it is clear to everyone else that they are pushing agendas rather than reporting the news.

As I said, I do not trust polls, but this one was an interesting side note.

Ann Coulter's latest column looks at the legacy of the Clinton Administration regarding Korea and how Clinton's enablers here in the U.S. are working overtime to gloss over that failed legacy. In particular is Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico. His comments seem to be ignorant of what actually happened in 1994.

From Ann's column:

Current New Mexico governor and former Clinton administration official Bill Richardson has been on tour, bragging about the groundbreaking Clinton administration negotiations with North Korea -- keeping his fingers crossed that no one has access to news from 1994.

In 1994, the Clinton administration got a call from Jimmy Carter -- probably collect -- who was with the then-leader of North Korea, saying: "Hey, Kim Il Sung is a total stud, and I've worked out a terrific deal. I'll give you the details later."

Clinton promptly signed the deal, so he could forget about North Korea and get back to cheating on Hillary. Mission accomplished.

...

But by Richardson's lights, the only reason Kim Jong Il is testing nukes is because Bush called him evil. He said, "When you call him axis of evil or a tyrant, you know, he just goes crazy." This is the sort of idiocy you expect to hear from an illiterate like Keith Olbermann, not someone who might know people who read newspapers.

Richardson also blames the war in Iraq, bleating that the poor North Koreans feel "that there's too much attention on the Middle East, on Iraq. So it's a cry for attention." If Kim just wanted our attention, he could have started dating Lindsay Lohan. But Richardson says Kim "psychologically feels he's been dissed, that he's not treated with respect."

D*mn that Bush! If only he had ignored the crazy Muslims and dedicated himself into sending flowers (and more nuclear reactors!) to North Korea, we could be actively helping Kim develop his nukes like the Clinton administration did.

As Richardson said, Kim "wants us to negotiate with him directly, as we did in the Clinton administration."

To go on TV and propose negotiating with North Korea like Clinton did without ever mentioning that North Korea cheated on that agreement before the ink was dry would be like denouncing American aggression against Japan in 1942 and neglecting to mention Pearl Harbor. Anyone who is either that stupid or that disingenuous should not be allowed on TV.

Richardson's claims require a belief in a very ridiculous set of circumstances: that North Korea did nothing to develop nukes since 1994 and then picked up the program again in 2003 and managed twelve years of research in just three years.

But even the leftist leaning New York Times doesn't agree with that:

When pressed by CNN's Anderson Cooper about the failed deal, Richardson lied, claiming the 1994 deal prevented the North Koreans from building nukes "for eight years" -- i.e., right up until the day The New York Times reported the North Koreans had been developing nukes "for the past several years."

Someone once said that it is better to be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt. Gov. Richardson has certainly removed all doubt about it.
